There is a handful of Indians unaware of the name of Rampurhat or Tarapith in West Bengal of India, for Tarapith and Rampurhat, so to say, is reciprocal. It is not an upstart township, rather this town has a bag of rich historical resources since the ancient reigns of Mauryan, Guptan and Pala dynasties. This holy place was a pasture land of Jain, Buddhist and Lama Monks and pilgrims. Today’s Rampurhat town has the status of the Sub-Divisional headquarter of the District of Birbhum of the State of West Bengal in India. Pilgrims and culture hunts from all over India and abroad stream into this location round through the year for the quest of spiritual and educational realization. Tarapith, Nalateshwari, Kankalitala, Fullora and uncountable Hindu temples are scattered around this township. Moreover, the renowned educational Pith of the world, Viswabharati Shantiniketan of Rabindranath Tagore, a handshake away, has her hands waving and welcoming the seekers of knowledge of the world. Birchandrapur nearby our beloved township is another angelic place where Nityananda Mahaprabhu, an eminent personality among Vaishnavas was born to accompany Nadia's Nemai, Gouranga Mahaprabhu, father of a new way of Vaishnava spiritual life. That is why Rampurhat has become a glorious attractive place alloyed with new and old eras and admixture of spiritual and cultural treasure. We are proud and privileged to say that Rampurhat Government Medical College and Hospital has been established in such an old and history driven holy town.

This Health institution has been constructed over the area of 18.27 acre having the easeful access with the nearby railway station of Rampurhat Junction.  This Health Institution got upgraded from Sub Division Hospital to District Hospital in 2012 & now to Rampurhat Government Medical College & Hospital in 2018 catering near about 1 Lakh (rounded) inpatient and 2.5 lakh (rounded) outdoor patient and 12,000 (rounded) institutional deliveries per year. The foundation stone was laid down by the Chief Minister on 22nd May 2017.  Ours is the only Govt. Medical College & Hospital situated here in the district of Birbhum, West Bengal. On the day of 1st August 2018, this medical educational institution started its smooth sailing with the admission of one hundred undergraduate medical students in a year having the approval of Medical Council of India.
